Where and when do you feel met?
For me, the trees and forests give me that yummy all over feel good feeling.
What does it feel like to you when you feel met, understood, and truly seen for who you are?
Every feeling has a corresponding body sensation. That's what I l check in with to know what I'm feeling. And the feeling of being met has a particular sensation within me, It's a feel good sensation of peace and calm that soothes tightness in my chest, where all the pieces of my inner puzzle have matched up coherently and the entire image is in harmony. It's a sensation of ease and softness I love and look for in my paintings, my friendships, my music, and my surroundings.
That same sensation is what I recreate when I'm lying in bed and can't sleep. Using breath and mantra, otherwise known as meditation, I'm able to generate that same feeling sensation of feeling met and I fall back into sleep.
When I decorate my home, I look for things that evoke that same felt sense.
Choosing art to live with is a very personal and intimate thing. Why does one piece or one artist's work speak to you above another. Does the why matter? What I believe does matter is that delicious feeling of being really met. It's what I look for also to know when a piece is moving in the right direction and especially to know when it's finished.
This art journey, is just that, a journey, and there is so much to learn along the way, the least of which is about techniques, supplies and skills. What's really at the heart of this for me, is growing myself into a more conscious, compassionate and present person. I strive for getting out of the way of what's most authentic coming through, and hoping that can be a mirror for anyone who sees my art and that it will serve them in some way. Peeling back the layers of not me so that more of me shines and gives you permission to do the same.
I hope seeing my art and hearing about my journey touches yours, even in a small way, and that you find many places and ways to feel more met in your life.
